Description
While not the largest of the figures, this is my favorite. I brought up the contrast a bit to make it clear. Still, no one knows why these images were etched into the desert. The mystery, of course, is that the drawings can only be seen from above, but they were made long before humans could get into the air. Since there is virtually no rainfall (ever) on the Plains of Nazca, the pictures, which are simply scratched onto the desert surface, remain remarkably clear. Erich von Daniken published CHARIOTS OF THE GODS in 1968 in which he proposed that perhaps these figures were made by or for ancient astronauts. See my next image.
